# What do UTC times mean?

Our platform uses the UTC time scale (Coordinated Universal Time) to avoid the constraints of time zones and to enable learners in different countries to easily transform the dates and times indicated into local time.

The activities proposed by the teaching teams are accessible during a defined period with a UTC deadline that must be taken into account.

The same applies to the opening and closing dates of courses, which are subject to this standard, as well as those for the start and end of enrolments, online exams, etc.

:::tip
**In mainland France, to convert UTC time :**

* In winter, add one hour

  i.e. UTC + 1 hour to obtain local time in mainland France
* In summer, you need to add two hours

UTC + 2 hours.

*Example: Quiz deadline 16 June 2022 at 12:00 P.M. UTC.*

June is considered a summer month, so you have until midnight, local French time, to submit your answers; on 17 September at 2:01 P.M. , it will be too late!

Similarly, the deadline for an activity is 3 February 2022 10:00 P.M. UTC :

You have until 3 February 2022 11:00 P.M. UTC to submit your answers.

10:00 P.M. UTC + 1 hour, as we are in Winter this time.
